| The Vista Fire Department proudly congratulates Firefighter/EMT Ashtin Rama and Probationary Firefighter/EMT Hanna Zhao on successfully completing the Engine Company Operations course, a comprehensive 24-hour training program held at the Orange County Fire Training Center in New Hampton, New York.
Engine Company Operations builds upon the fire behavior knowledge and fundamental firefighting skills introduced during Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO) and Interior Firefighting Operations/SCBA training. The course focuses on the duties and responsibilities of an engine company and prepares firefighters to safely and effectively perform fire suppression operations.
Throughout the training, participants received extensive instruction in fire extinguishment utilizing hose and nozzle systems, standpipe operations, and master streams. The course also examines various types of fire hose and nozzles and incorporates hydraulic calculations and flow evaluations to help firefighters ensure that proper fire flows are achieved through different hose and nozzle configurations.
The program concludes with live-fire evolutions that allow participants to apply the knowledge and skills developed throughout the course while operating as members of an engine company under realistic fireground conditions.
By completing this advanced training, Firefighter/EMT Rama and Probationary Firefighter/EMT Zhao have further strengthened their knowledge, skills, and preparedness to safely and effectively perform engine company operations while protecting our community and fellow firefighters.
Congratulations to Ashtin and Hanna on their continued dedication to training, professionalism, and excellence in the fire service.
