| This week's Monday night drill focused on "Firefighter CPR, F.A.S.T., and Mayday Operations" for our members.
During the "F.A.S.T. & Mayday Operations" portion of the drill, Vista Firefighters reviewed the proper steps for initiating a mayday, including how to effectively communicate one during an emergency. Firefighters then applied these skills in a practical scenario, using F.A.S.T. (Firefighter Assist and Search Team) techniques. They practiced various packaging methods to prepare a downed Firefighter for removal, followed by extrication procedures to safely evacuate them from the incident. A mayday is a critical emergency procedure used when a Firefighter is in imminent danger or requires immediate assistance to prevent serious injury or loss of life.
While those scenarios were underway, our Vista EMS personnel conducted training on "Firefighter CPR"— a specialized technique used when a Firefighter suffers cardiac arrest on an emergency scene. This training taught EMS personnel how to efficiently remove gear and initiate CPR, as well as how to coordinate an effective emergency response in these high-stress situations.
The Vista Fire Department is proud to offer both Fire and EMS services, allowing our members to train collaboratively and prepare for real-life incidents with a unified approach.
