| This week’s Monday drill was “Extrication with Victim Removal – Car vs. Pedestrian” for our members.
During this drill, Vista Fire Department personnel trained on responding to a vehicle vs. pedestrian incident, with a focus on patient stabilization, rapid assessment, and safe victim removal. Members practiced scene size-up, vehicle stabilization, patient packaging, and coordinated patient removal while working together as a unified Fire and EMS team. These incidents can be complex and time-sensitive, often involving traumatic injuries that require quick action while still ensuring the safety of both the patient and responders.
Training on these scenarios is critical because vehicle vs. pedestrian incidents can happen anywhere in our community and often result in serious injuries. By training on stabilization, extrication techniques, and patient care together, our members are better prepared to provide rapid, coordinated care that gives patients the best possible outcome.
