Vista Fire Department Clears Dry Hydrants After January 25th Snowstorm
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Vista Fire Department
January 26, 2026

Following yesterday’s snowstorm, members of the Vista Fire Department were out today clearing snow and ice from dry hydrants throughout the District.

Dry hydrants are a critical part of our rural water supply system. Unlike traditional hydrants connected to municipal water mains, dry hydrants allow fire apparatus to quickly draft water from ponds, lakes, and other static water sources. During a fire, especially in areas without hydrants, these access points can make a significant difference in how quickly water is placed on the fire and how effectively crews can protect lives and property.

Clearing dry hydrants after snowstorms ensures:
-- Fire apparatus can safely access water sources without delay
-- Drafting operations can begin immediately during an emergency
-- Response times are reduced when every second counts

We would like to sincerely thank all of our members who took the time today to clear dry hydrants and ensure our community remains protected.
