This Sunday morning, the Vista Fire Department held a Firefighter Skills Class focused on strengthening core firefighting skills and supporting members working toward their next level of certification.
The "Firefighter Skills Class" focused on boarding and disembarking a rig, reviewing firefighting hand tools such as the Halligan bar and flat-head axe, and reinforcing seat positions and tool assignments on our apparatus. These fundamental skills are critical for ensuring safety, efficiency, and coordination on the fireground — from mounting the rig quickly and safely to knowing exactly which tools and responsibilities each firefighter has upon arrival. Mastering these basics helps our members operate as a cohesive team when seconds truly matter. This training not only equips our firefighters with the foundational knowledge needed for success in the Firefighter I program, but also helps those who have already completed Firefighter I to maintain and refine their skills.
