This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Tanker Shuttle" drill for our Firefighters and a "Pediatric Emergencies" drill for our EMTs.
The "Tanker Shuttle" drill had our Vista Firefighters practicing water supply operations during a fire. A "tanker shuttle" is where Firefighters are forced to move water via tankers due to areas with no fire hydrants or good drafting resources. It is instrumental for Departments in our area to have an adequate water supply to ensure a successful fireground operation. Being that the Vista Fire District is a "rural water supply" area, practicing this type of water supply operations is essential. We would like to thank the South Salem Fire Department for hosting the training this past Monday night.
The "Pediatric Emergencies" drill had our Vista EMS personnel reviewing how to handle an emergency involving a pediatric patient. Vista EMS personnel covered how to handle several different types of pediatric emergencies such as trauma, seizures and measles. Following the conclusion of this drill, Vista EMS personnel are now better prepared to help pediatric patients in the field when dispatched to an emergency. We would like to thank Dr. Eleanor Dethomas from Northern Westchester Hospital for leading our drill this past Monday and teaching our Vista EMS personnel!
