This week's Monday drill was a "Lost Hiker Search" drill for our members.
The "Lost Hiker Search" drill was conducted at the Leon Levy Preserve on Smith Ridge Road in South Salem, New York. Vista Fire Department personnel searched the area bordering Smith Ridge Road, Kitchawan Road and Rt. 35 while other crews were staged at the Leon Levy Preserve entrance. Crews worked together to locate the person, address the patient's medical needs, package them for extrication and remove them from the woods to a waiting ambulance. Practicing this type of training is instrumental for our members due to the amount of parks in the Vista Fire District such as the Leon Levy Preserve and Onatru Farm.
