| This week's Monday Night Drill was a "V.E.I.S." drill for our Firefighters and a "BLS Protocol Updates" drill for our EMTs. The "V.E.I.S." drill focused on the advanced firefighting technique known as Vent, Enter, Isolate, and Search (V.E.I.S.). Vista Firefighters practiced venting a second-story window using a 24-foot ladder, safely entering the room after ventilation, isolating the space to prevent fire and smoke spread, and conducting a rapid search to locate and remove a potential victim. V.E.I.S. is a critical life-saving tactic used when traditional interior access is blocked or delayed, allowing firefighters to quickly reach and rescue occupants who may be trapped in upper floors or hard-to-access areas. This drill helps ensure our members remain proficient in essential rescue skills, operate safely under challenging conditions, and continue to provide the highest level of service to our community. In the "BLS Protocol Update" drill, Vista EMS personnel reviewed recent New York State BLS protocol updates and practiced new skills. Training included DuoNeb administration for respiratory distress, supraglottic airway (SGA) insertion for airway management, and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) setup and application. Members worked through hands-on stations covering indications, contraindications, assembly, and patient monitoring. We were also joined by Lewisboro VAC and Pound Ridge VAC, fostering regional collaboration. Special thanks to our Medical Director, Dr. David Zuckerberg, for his guidance and support in leading this training!
