This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Search and Rescue Drill" drill for our Firefighters and a "Splinting" drill for our EMTs.
The "Search & Rescue" drill had our Vista Firefighters performing search & rescue operations by conducting searches for a trapped patient in a structure fire scenario. Once they located the patient, firefighters removed the patient out of the structure where Vista EMS personnel would be awaiting the patient during an incident. This type of training helps our firefighters better prepare themselves for the challenges they may face in a structure fire atmosphere when they may need to exit a building or conduct various tasks such as a search & rescue.
The "Splinting" drill had our Vista EMS personnel performing in several splinting scenarios, reviewing the proper ways to perform a traction splint and how to properly "sling and swathe" a patient with a shoulder injury. EMS personnel will use splinting techniques to immobilize the extremities of their patients when an injury has occurred and to also manage the pain they may be feeling. We would like to thank Barbara Polowczyk for leading our drill this past Monday and teaching our Vista EMS personnel proper splinting techniques!
