This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Lock Out & Tag Out " drill for our Firefighters and a "Hands-On Skills with New York City Emergency Room Doctors" drill for our EMTs.

The "Lock Out & Tag Out" drill had our Vista Firefighters reviewing the proper procedures and techniques on how to conduct a "lock out & tag out" when it is deemed necessary. A "lock out & tag out" is a method of controlling hazardous energy that involves using a system of locks and tags to prevent the equipment from being re-energized before those exposed to the equipment are clear of it. This process involves placing equipment in a zero mechanical state or shutting it completely off.

The "Hands-On Skills with New York City Emergency Room Doctors" drill had our Vista EMS personnel training alongside providers from numerous area agencies including the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps, New Canaan EMS, New Canaan Fire Company, Bedford Fire Department, Chappaqua EMS, Goldens Bridge Fire Department, and Westchester EMS, learning from several emergency room doctors covering different types of skills. This drill was led by former Vista Firefighter/EMT Duncan Grossman who was a member for 10 years before heading off to medical school in Maine. Dr. Grossman brought along several doctors from his team at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City to cover topics such as emergency delivery, intubation equipment operations and understanding the fundamentals of an ultrasound. The Vista Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Dr. Duncan Grossman, Dr. Phillip Groden, Dr. Lara Silverman, Dr. Nazish Malik, Dr. Brendan Bechard and Dr. Jared Kutzin for joining us this past Monday Night!
