| This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Ventilation" drill for our Firefighters and an "EMS In Service - Airway Lab" drill for our EMTs. The "Ventilation" drill had our Vista Firefighters practicing how to properly vent a roof by using the proper equipment to conduct various cutting methods. Vista Firefighters reviewed roof operations during a structure fire, how to use our roof saws and how to conduct the "7, 9, 8" cutting technique on a flat roof. Ventilation in the fire service is “the systematic removal of heat, smoke and fire gases from a structure” with the associated benefits of victim survivability, increased visibility and reducing fire spread. The "EMS In Service - Airway Lab" drill had our Vista EMS personnel conducting practical skills on how to manage a patient's airway. Vista EMS personnel practiced assisting patient airway ventilations by using the nasopharyngeal airway (NPA), oropharyngeal airway (OPA) and bag-valve-mask (BVM) equipment. This type of drill is part of the annual in-service training that our EMS personnel have to go through every year. We would like to thank CIC/Paramedic Dani Garavito for leading our training this past Monday night!
