This week's Monday drill was a "Gear Overview" for our members.
The "Gear Overview" drill had our Vista Fire Department personnel review the NFPA 1851 standard and conduct their annual gear inspection. The NFPA 1851 standard was created to establish proper personal protective equipment maintenance and limit the exposure of fire ground contaminants to firefighters. Along with our trained gear instructors, Vista Firefighters conduced their annual gear inspections to make sure all of our personal protective equipment is in good condition to remain in service for firefighting use. This drill also gave our Vista EMS personnel the opportunity to review injuries surrounding firefighting personal protective equipment and how to treat them when they occur.
