This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Hoseline Advancement" drill for our Firefighters and a "Trauma Operations" drill for our EMTs.

The "Hoseline Advancement" drill had our Vista Firefighters reviewing how to stretch an 1-3/4" hoseline off of Engine 141 while conducting several different scenarios. As Vista Fire Department personnel practiced stretching the hoselines, our motor pump operators practiced supplying the fire attack teams with water by operating Engine 141 and Engine 142's pump panel. Lastly our members also went over drafting operations by operating Engine 142 to practice refilling Engine 141 with water after a fire has occurred.

The "Trauma Operations" drill had our Vista EMS personnel reviewing trauma emergencies and the New York State protocol for response to these types of events. Topics covered during the "Trauma Emergencies" drill included bleeding and shock management, blunt force, crushing, head, neck, back, spinal injuries and major multi-system trauma incidents. Trauma protocol is an important part of an EMTs abilities, as many of its principles form the foundations for other patient management skills.
