| Throughout Fire Prevention Week, Station Manager Carl Johnson and several of our members visited Meadow Pond Elementary School to teach students important fire safety tips and procedures.
Station Manager Johnson visited classrooms throughout MPES to speak with students about fire prevention and what to do in the event of a fire. Students learned about the importance of working smoke alarms, how to safely exit their home during an emergency, what to do if they encounter smoke, and why they should never hide from Firefighters during a fire.
Our members also gave students an up-close look at the protective clothing and equipment Firefighters wear, helping demonstrate that although a fully equipped Firefighter may look and sound different, they are there to help during an emergency. Students also had the opportunity to tour Vista Engine 141 and learn about some of the equipment our Firefighters use when responding to emergencies throughout the community.
This year's Fire Prevention Week theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” also highlights the importance of safely charging phones, tablets, toys, and other devices powered by lithium-ion batteries. Simple habits such as using the proper charger, charging devices on a hard surface, and unplugging them once fully charged can help reduce the risk of a fire.
Fire prevention education is an important part of the Vista Fire Department's commitment to our community, and we always enjoy the opportunity to teach our youngest residents lessons that can help keep them and their families safe.
We would like to thank the Katonah-Lewisboro School District and Meadow Pond Elementary School for once again welcoming us and helping make this year's Fire Prevention Week a success! |
