V.E.I.S and Trauma Emergencies Drills for 09/30/19

October 1, 2019

This week's Monday Night Drill was a "V.E.I.S" drill for our Firefighters and a "Trauma Emergencies" drill for our EMTs.

The "V.E.I.S" drill had our Vista Firefighters going over the Firefighting technique known as V.E.I.S. which is Vent, Enter, Isolate and Search. Vista Firefighters practiced venting a 2nd story window from a 28 foot ladder, followed by entering the room after it was vented, isolating the room to control the environment and then they conducted a rapid search to locate the patient. The V.E.I.S technique is a way for Firefighters to conduct a coordinated rescue in the event of an emergency.

The "Trauma Emergencies" drill had our Vista EMS personnel reviewing trauma emergencies and the New York State protocol for response to these type of events. Topics covered during the "Trauma Emergencies" drill included bleeding and shock management, blunt force, crushing, head, neck, back, spinal injures and major multi-system trauma incidents. Trauma protocol is an important part of an EMTs abilities, as many of its principals form the foundations for other patient management skills.

If you are interested in being part of our team at the Vista FD, visit us any Monday night from 6:30pm - 9:30pm or click the "Become a Member" tab at for more details!
