This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Hose Line Advancement, Fire Extinguishers & V.E.I.S." drill for our Firefighters and a "Cardiac Emergencies" drill for our EMTs.

The "Hose Line Advancement, Fire Extinguishers & V.E.I.S." drill had our Vista Firefighters split up into several groups throughout the night covering the topics previously mentioned. The hose line advancement station had our Firefighters going over how to do a 1-person & 2-person hoseline stretch and the proper technique of stretching an 1-3/4" hose line into a structure. At the V.E.I.S station, Firefighters learned the technique known as V.E.I.S. which is vent, enter, isolate and search. Vista Firefighters would vent a 2nd story window, enter the room after it was vented, isolate the room to control the environment and then they conducted a rapid search to locate the patient. Lastly, we wrapped up the evening reviewing fire extinguishers and their proper use.

The "Cardiac Emergencies" drill had our Vista EMS personnel review signs & symptoms of a cardiac emergency before participating in "real time" scenarios. Our EMS personnel practiced how they would respond to a patient with chest pain from myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure.
