On Saturday January 25th at 8:05pm the Vista Fire Department was dual dispatched along with the South Salem Fire Department to a reported structure fire at 222 Kitchawan Road in the Vista Fire District. 60 Control (Dispatch Center) updated Car 2561 (Vista FD Chief Bill Dingee) for a firefighter on scene with a house fully involved. With that update, Chief Dingee requested the 1st alarm assignment bringing in Pound Ridge Engine and Tanker, Golden's Bridge Tanker, Ridgefield Tanker, Bedford Hills Firefighter Assist and Search Team, and New Canaan FD to cover Vista HQ. Car 2453 (SSFD Asst. Chief Mike Lynch) was on scene first and requested Vista Engine 141 drop its 5” supply line half way down the driveway because there was a pond right next to the driveway. Chief Dingee arrived on scene and assumed command updating that it was a 2 ½ story wood frame contemporary, fully involved and that there would be exterior attack only. South Salem Tanker 2 followed Engine 141 into the scene, and South Salem Engine 167 drafted out of the pond next to the driveway and supplied water up to the scene. Due to the heavy volume of fire, two 2 ½ inch lines were pulled, one to the bravo side (left side), another to the alpha side (front of house) , and two 1 ¾ inch hose lines to the charlie side (back of house). Chief Dingee began releasing mutual aid units shortly after 9:00pm and the last unit clear the scene a little before midnight.
A special thanks to all the mutual aid companies that responded last night to help fight this fire in below freezing temperatures.
