This Sunday morning was very busy at the Vista Firehouse as we held a "Firefighter Fundamentals Class" for our members who are currently taking Firefighter I & Firefighters who are keeping up with their basic skills, an "EMT Fundamentals Class" for our members who are currently attending an EMT-Basic class and for those EMT Candidates who are preparing themselves for a future EMT-Basic class, and we also held Driver Training for our members who are becoming Apparatus Drivers/MPO's on Engine 142.

Led by Lead Foreman Phil Katz & Foreman Marc Baiocco, this week's "Firefighter Fundamentals Class" tested our Probationary Firefighters through our in-house TOAC course. The TOAC course is a requirement for the New York State Firefighter I program and is a physical agility test for new Firefighters to see if they can handle the demands that come along with becoming a Volunteer Firefighter during an emergency scene. TOAC challenges Firefighters with a series of 8 Firefighting tasks done continuously in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and on 1 tank of air. This type of training is what will help our Firefighters who are currently attending the New York State Firefighter I program succeed in their class and for our Firefighters who have completed Firefighter I to keep up with their skills.

This week's "EMT Fundamentals Class" led by Foreman Allie Fisher, Foreman Jake Melcher and Mutual Responder Dave Jacobsen reviewed how to do patient assessment in a trauma call scenario and helped prepare our current EMT students for the National Practical Exam. This type of training is what will prepare our EMT Candidates who are currently taking the EMT-Basic class and those EMT Candidates who are preparing themselves for a future EMT-Basic class.
