Firefighters perform dry hydrant maintenance

During the Vista FD's weekly Monday Night Drill, Firefighters spent the time conducting annual maintenance on the Vista Fire District's dry hydrants while EMTs trained on pediatric respiratory assessment.

Dry hydrants are non-pressurized pipe installed at a pond or lake that is in close proximity to an all weather road. Dry hydrants will provide the Vista Fire Department with a way to replenish their water supplies during fire suppression operations. In any area without water mains and domestic fire hydrants, like the Vista Fire District, the dry hydrant concept can provide a simple, cost-effective solution to the need for rapid access to water sources.
