How long have you been a member for?

I've been a member of the Vista Fire Department since January 2009.

What made you join the Vista Volunteer Fire Department?

My father had a major role in me becoming a member, when I was younger every time the siren would sound he would drop what he was doing and head to the fire house. As I began to get older he would allow me to come with him and I realized I wanted to join the Fire Department the day that the Rings End warehouse caught fire. I remember my father and I running across the yard to the fire house as the siren sounded, the fire was so big it looked like the sun was rising.

Watching the members of the Vista Fire Department and all the surrounding towns battle the Rings End fire was one of the most incredible things I had seen. At that moment I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of, so on the day of my 16th birthday I handed in my application to become a member of the Vista Fire Department.

What does serving the Vista Fire District community mean to you?

Serving the Vista community is incredibly rewarding, especially in a small town like ours as you get a chance to meet almost everyone and help them in their time of need.

What has been your greatest achievement with the Vista Volunteer Fire Department?

My greatest achievement in the Vista Fire Department was being awarded with the "Firefighter of the year" award from 2010-2011.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining the Vista Volunteer Fire Department?

If you are thinking of becoming a member you should just do it, the friends you make at the Vista fire house will be some of the closest friends you will ever have. Helping protect your community is a rewarding feeling and you have the opportunity to brighten someone’s darkest day.
