We at the Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Firefighter Mike Canil for completing his probationary period in the Department through the VFD Mentor Program!

Since joining back in November 2014, FF Mike Canil has completed the Firefighter I, Firefighter Survival & Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations classes and also participated in taking the National FF1 Exam. FF Canil actively participates during calls & drills and has been mentored throughout his probationary period by Lead Foreman Wilmer Cervantes.

The VFD Mentor Program is a process where new members are paired up with a senior member to help guide them through their probationary period (the first 6-12 months) in the Department. This program was developed to help transition new members into the Department by understanding call response, attending weekly Monday drills and preparing them for classes they may be taking in their 1st year with the Department.
