This week's Monday Night Drill was a lost person search over at the Leon Levy Preserve off of Route 123 in South Salem, New York. Both Vista Fire & EMS crews searched the preserve’s trails bordering Route 35, Lake Kitchawan Drive and Route 123 while Chief Jeff Peck led the crews from the command post.

For this scenario there were two lost patients that the Vista FD crews had to locate, medically assess and then remove from the wooded area. It took VFD crews roughly 5 minutes to locate the first person and 25 minutes to locate the second person. Once they made contact with both patients they addressed their medical needs, packaged them for extrication (if it was needed) and removed them from the woods to a waiting ambulance. In total it took the Vista FD crews 40 minutes to complete this drill.

Practicing this type of training is instrumental for our Firefighters & EMT's due to the amount of parks in the Vista Fire District such as Onatru Farm and the Leon Levy Preserve. The Vista FD also conducted similar training at Onatru Farm back on July 27th.
