| On the morning of Sunday, September 13th, the Vista Fire Department held our annual 9/11 Memorial Service at the Vista Firehouse. Each year, our Department pauses to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, including the 343 FDNY Firefighters, 23 NYPD Officers, and 37 Port Authority Police Officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
We also honor the many first responders who continue to battle 9/11-related illnesses, as well as those who have since passed away from these conditions in the years following the attacks. Members of the Vista Fire Department gathered alongside families, neighbors, fellow first responders, and community leaders to reflect, lay a wreath at our 9/11 Memorial, and observe a moment of silence in tribute to those we lost.
The ceremony included the National Anthem performed by Heather Lackey, and the Invocation and Benediction delivered by Father David Franklin of St. Aloysius Parish in New Canaan. Chief Jeff Peck provided opening and closing remarks, and we were honored to welcome Vista Fire Department Ex-Chief Bill Dingee as this year's keynote speaker.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us for this important annual tradition and stood alongside our members in honoring the memory of those who perished, while continuing to support the families and first responders forever impacted by the events of September 11th.
