| This week’s Monday night drill was a “Lost Hiker Search” drill for our members.
Vista Fire Department personnel conducted a coordinated search of the designated wooded drill area while additional crews staged at the entrance to provide support. Operating as unified teams, members searched for and located the missing individual, performed a medical assessment, provided patient care, packaged the patient for extrication, and safely transported them out of the wooded terrain to a waiting ambulance.
Training for these types of incidents is especially important given the number of parks, preserves, trails, and wooded areas located throughout the Vista Fire District, including the Leon Levy Preserve and Onatru Farm. Practicing coordinated search, patient-care, and extrication operations helps ensure our members are prepared to respond safely and efficiently when someone becomes lost or injured in a remote area.
We would also like to thank the South Salem Fire Department and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for joining us during the drill and working alongside our members. Training together with our neighboring emergency services helps strengthen coordination and teamwork for incidents that may require a multi-agency response.
