How long have you been a member for?

I joined in February of 2011.

What made you join the Vista Volunteer Fire Department?

When I was 8 years old, my Mom passed away. It was the Vista Volunteer Fire Department who responded that day. I remember a bunch of Police Officers, Firefighters, and EMT's coming into the house and doing everything they could do to help my mom, a complete stranger to them.

To me, a bunch of strangers trying to save someone they didn't even know, was the most unselfish, and noble act I have ever seen. And since that day, I have been inspired to be just like them. To help those in need and not judging others by their life choices, religion, sexual orientation, or their ethnicity. But just helping someone, because they're in need of help.

What does serving the Vista Fire District community mean to you?

Being able to make a difference anyway I can, no matter how big or small, in my community, is an honor and privilege for me.

What has been your greatest achievement with the Vista Volunteer Fire Department?

When I received EMT of the Year and the Top Responder award for 2012-2013. It meant so much to me that all of my hard work was truly paying off.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining the Vista Volunteer Fire Department?

Being part of a Fire Department takes a lot of commitment.

It means responding to calls at 2am; to a medical call or fire call, when you have work at 7am later that day.

It means training to become better Firefighters, and better EMTs, so you can better serve the people in our community.

It means being a team player and knowing how to work together efficiently.

It's about being part of something that truly makes a difference in everyday lives.

It changed my life forever when I became a member of Vista Fire Department. I consider all of them my friends (my second wacky family) and the department is my home. Thanks to them I'm on my way to becoming a Paramedic. If you want to help and serve your community, then please come down and join Vista Volunteer Fire Department!
