On Wednesday, April 29th, and Thursday, April 30th, the Vista Volunteer Fire Department proudly participated in the John Jay High School “Trial By Fire” recruitment event alongside the Katonah, South Salem, and Golden’s Bridge Fire Departments.

Throughout the event, John Jay High School students participated in several hands-on stations designed to introduce them to firefighting skills in a fun and competitive way. Students rotated through each station, learning important skills while working as a team, and the winning teams were awarded a special “Trial By Fire” shirt.

The event featured three key stations:
-- “Don-Climb-Doff” – Focused on properly putting on and removing firefighting gear.
-- “Sketch the Unseen” – A communication challenge that emphasized the importance of clear radio transmissions and teamwork.
-- “Dummy Drag” – A station that demonstrated the physical strength and endurance often required in firefighting and rescue situations.

Vista FD is proud to take part in meaningful community outreach events like “Trial By Fire,” which help introduce students to the fire service and inspire the next generation of volunteer firefighters. A huge thank you to the Katonah Fire Department for organizing and including us in this fantastic event.
