This week’s Monday drill was “Extrication with Victim Removal – Vehicle on Its Side” for our members.

During this drill, members trained on stabilizing and operating at a motor vehicle accident where a vehicle has come to rest on its side. These incidents require specialized stabilization techniques to prevent the vehicle from moving during rescue operations. Members practiced stabilization methods, patient access, tool operations, and coordinated victim removal while EMS personnel provided patient care and packaging.

Training on vehicle-on-side scenarios is important because these incidents present unique hazards, including vehicle instability, limited access to patients, and an increased risk of injury to both the patient and responders. Through this hands-on training, our members are better prepared to safely stabilize the vehicle, access the patient, and perform a safe and efficient rescue.
