| This week’s Monday drill was “Extrication with Victim Removal – Doors and Dash Displacement" for our members. During this drill, Vista Fire Department personnel trained on vehicle extrication techniques used when a patient is trapped by the dashboard, steering column, or doors following a motor vehicle accident. Members practiced vehicle stabilization, glass management, door removal, and dash displacement using hydraulic rescue tools. EMS personnel worked alongside firefighters to provide patient care, stabilization, and proper packaging throughout the extrication process. This training is important because no two vehicle accidents are the same, and patients are often trapped in difficult positions that require specialized rescue techniques. By training on these scenarios, our members improve their ability to safely remove trapped occupants while minimizing further injury and providing immediate medical care.
