| This week’s Monday drill featured an "SCBA Operations" drill for our firefighters and an "SGA refresher" for our EMTs. Our EMS personnel recently reviewed Supraglottic Airway (SGA) skills during a hands-on training session. During the drill, providers practiced indications, contraindications, sizing, insertion techniques, and proper confirmation of placement. Emphasis was placed on rapid airway management during critical medical emergencies, troubleshooting complications, and maintaining continuity of patient care from initial treatment through transport. This refresher ensures our personnel remain confident and proficient in advanced life-saving skills that directly impact patient outcomes. We were also joined by members of the Pound Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and we thank our Medical Director, Dr. David Zuckerberg, for helping lead this drill and for his continued support of our EMS training and education. At the same time, firefighters conducted an SCBA Operations drill designed to reinforce respiratory protection and safe fireground practices. Members practiced donning and doffing procedures, emergency air management techniques, low-air scenarios, and situational awareness while operating in simulated hazardous environments. Regular hands-on training with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus is essential to firefighter safety and operational effectiveness, helping ensure crews can operate efficiently and safely during structure fires and other IDLH conditions.
