New York State Outdoor Burn Ban in Effect from March 16th to May 14th

By Vista Fire Department
March 16, 2026

The New York State annual outdoor burn ban is in effect from March 16th through May 14th. During this time, open burning of brush and debris is prohibited to help prevent wildfires and protect our community.

Early spring conditions — including dry vegetation, low humidity, and wind — allow fires to spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

For full details and permitted exceptions, please visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website: https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/air-quality/open-burning
