This week's Monday Night Drill focused on "Cold Water Rescue" for our members.

The drill involved Vista Fire Department personnel reviewing proper techniques for donning cold water rescue suits, rigging a patient with rescue equipment, throwing a rescue rope bag, and practicing the full rescue process on the Vista Firehouse pond. This hands-on training equipped members with the skills needed to effectively respond during a cold water rescue incident. Cold water environments present unique hazards, including the rapid onset of hypothermia, reduced dexterity, and increased risk to rescuers. Conducting this training in a controlled setting allows members to build muscle memory, understand equipment limitations, and practice safe rescue techniques before facing a real-world emergency, reinforcing both victim survivability and responder safety when seconds matter.
