| This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Hoseline Advancement" drill for our Firefighters and a "Mobile Crisis Team" drill for our EMTs.
The "Hoseline Advancement" drill had Vista Firefighters reviewing how to stretch a 2-1/2" hoseline off of Engine 142 and practicing the horseshoe lay. Crews worked through several different fireground scenarios, focusing on deploying and advancing the larger-diameter line efficiently and safely. Training with the 2-1/2" hoseline is especially important because this line is typically used for higher-volume fire attacks, such as commercial structures, large residential fires, or exterior defensive operations. The horseshoe lay technique allows firefighters to deploy the line quickly, reduce kinks, and maintain better hose management during operations, ensuring that our firefighters can operate smoothly as a team and deliver the right amount of water where it’s needed most during real emergencies.
The "Mobile Crisis Team" drill had our Vista EMS personnel reviewing how to recognize, respond to, and support individuals experiencing a mental health or behavioral health crisis. The Mobile Crisis Team provides specialized resources such as on-scene assessment, mental health counseling, and coordination of care to help stabilize situations safely and connect patients with the right services. By understanding the team’s role, available resources, and how to collaborate during emergencies, our EMS personnel are now better prepared to deliver compassionate, effective care and ensure that individuals in crisis receive appropriate follow-up and professional support. We would like to thank Elisha Fernandes and Kyle Lia from the Westchester Jewish Community Services Mobile Crisis Team for joining us and leading this past Monday’s drill!
