This week's Monday night drill focused on "Pump Operations" for our members. The “Pump Operations” drill focused on developing core driver and pump operator skills critical to our firefighting operations. Vista Firefighters practiced several key evolutions, including drafting from the dry hydrant using Tanker 4, with an emphasis on air priming, supplying in RPM mode, and transitioning to volume mode. Tanker 4 was also used to supply a large manifold feeding multiple attack lines. Engine 141, Engine 142, and Engine 143 each flowed both 1¾" and 2½" hose lines, reinforcing initial attack line operations and nozzle techniques. Additional evolutions included transitioning from tank water to a positive water source and practicing how to respond to a loss of water supply mid-operation. These hands-on evolutions are the foundation for many of our future water supply operations and an important step in driver/motor pump operator (MPO) development.
