This Monday evening, we held an "Onboarding Module Training Program" for several new members of the Vista Fire Department.

The session focused on one core module:

Module 5 - Apparatus Overview

Hands-on learning is crucial to understanding how equipment and vehicles function. This module introduces probationary members to the department’s apparatus, ensuring they become familiar with the vehicles and tools used in emergency operations. It includes a comprehensive review of how to operate key pieces of equipment safely and efficiently.

During the hands-on portion of the training, probationary members rotated through each piece of apparatus in the Vista Fire Department fleet. This interactive walkthrough took place while active members were conducting the department’s weekly truck reports, which are completed every Monday evening. New members had the opportunity to observe and ask questions about equipment placement, vehicle capabilities, and operational procedures, gaining valuable real-world context as they learned directly from experienced personnel engaged in routine checks. This approach provided both exposure and education, bridging classroom instruction with field familiarity.

The "Onboarding Module Training Program" is an eight-module curriculum designed to equip probationary members with the essential knowledge, skills, and mindset they need to succeed. Each module builds on the last, blending hands-on training with important theoretical insights into firefighting, EMS, and departmental culture.

This training not only provides a solid technical foundation but also fosters a sense of connection, confidence, and pride in being part of the Vista Fire Department. By the end of the program, new members are well-prepared to serve safely, effectively, and as part of a unified team.
