This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Hydrant Service" drill for our Firefighters and a "Heat Emergencies" drill for our EMTs. The "Hydrant Service" drill had Vista Firefighters performing preventative maintenance on the dry hydrants throughout the Vista Fire District. Regular hydrant servicing ensures that motor pump operators can access water quickly, even when hydrants may be obstructed by silt due to seasonal changes. In addition to checking and servicing all the dry hydrants in the district, the drill provided those undergoing driver training an opportunity to practice their pump panel skills. Meanwhile, the "Heat Emergencies" drill had Vista EMS personnel reviewing how to treat patients affected by high outside temperatures. Topics covered included heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and heat cramps. The EMTs practiced handling various call scenarios and learned the best methods for hydrating patients suffering from heat-related issues.
