This Sunday morning, we held a "Firefighter Skills Class" and driver training for members working towards becoming Apparatus Drivers on our Ambulances.

The "Firefighter Skills Class" focused on ropes and knots, key tools in a firefighter's toolkit. This training covered the various types of ropes used in firefighting, how to tie essential knots, and how to properly use them in real-life emergency scenarios. Ropes are vital for tasks like securing victims, rappelling from heights, creating rescue systems, and stabilizing structures. The ability to tie knots like the figure-eight, bowline, and clove hitch can significantly enhance a firefighter's efficiency in life-threatening situations. This training is not only essential for those enrolled in the Firefighter I program but also helps seasoned firefighters maintain and refine their skills for greater safety and effectiveness.

The Driver Training program is how Vista Fire Department personnel are trained and cleared to operate Fire and EMS apparatus. Members complete several hours of "drive time" behind the wheel of each vehicle before being approved as drivers. The training includes an equipment overview of all apparatus and instruction on operating the pump panel for the fire engines. The program starts with members learning to drive the ambulances, followed by Engine 142, Engine 143, Engine 141, and Tanker 4.
