Firefighter Phillips wins Firefighter of the Year, Foreman Hersam wins EMT of the Year and Firefighter Whalen wins Rookie of the Year

On August 7th, 2021 the Vista Fire Department held their Annual Inspection Dinner at the Vista Firehouse on Smith Ridge Road in South Salem, New York.

At the 2021 Vista FD Annual Inspection Dinner, the VFD awarded Firefighter Lance Phillips as their 2020-2021 Firefighter of the Year, Foreman Elly Hersam as their 2020-2021 EMT of the Year and Firefighter Kyla Whalen as their 2020-2021 Rookie of the Year.

Firefighter Lance Phillips joined the Vista Fire Department in July 2018 and has been certified in courses such as Firefighter I, Truck Company Operations and Firefighter Survival. Firefighter Phillips was the #9 responder in 2020 attending 128 out of 309 calls. Firefighter Phillips showcases the dedication it takes to receive the Firefighter of the Year award in the Vista Fire Department.

Foreman Elly Hersam joined the Vista Fire Department in August 2017 and has been certified as an EMT since 2018. Foreman Hersam was the #10 responder in 2020 attending 122 calls out of 309 calls and was the #1 responder as a lead EMT in 2020. Foreman Hersam previously won the Rookie of the Year award in 2018-2019. Foreman Hersam showcases the dedication it takes to receive the EMT of the Year award in the Vista Fire Department.

Firefighter Kyla Whalen joined the Vista Fire Department in October 2019 and has been certified in courses such as Firefighter I, Truck Company Operations and Firefighter Survival. Firefighter Whalen was the #4 drill attendee in 2020 attending 34 out of 37 calls. Firefighter Whalen showcases the dedication it takes to receive the Rookie of the Year award in the Vista Fire Department.
