The Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Firefighter Kyla Whalen on completing the "Firefighter Survival Series: Self-Rescue" class at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla, New York.

"Firefighter Survival Series: Self-Rescue" class is a 12-hour course described as the following:

“This program is designed for firefighter self-rescue based on job performance requirements from NFPA 1407. Course content will enable firefighters to recognize the types of events encountered on the fire ground that contribute to firefighter disorientation and/or entrapment, to have knowledge of what is necessary to ensure their safety and that of their partners or crew members, and perform self-rescue techniques when disoriented, separated, or when needing to exit a structure in an emergency. This course requires students to perform several practical evolutions with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and includes vertical self-rescue skills utilized for egress from an elevation.”

All training is free of charge to the members of the Vista Fire Department and Volunteers are needed! Please visit VistaFD.org for more details on how you can join our team!
