The Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Captain Brian Porco and Lieutenant Phil Katz on completing the "Active Shooter/Hostile Event Incident Command" class at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla, New York.

"Active Shooter/Hostile Event Incident Command" class is a 6-hour course described as the following:

"Active Shooter/Hostile Event (ASHE) incidents are often unpredictable, evolve rapidly and have substantial consequences. In an effort to respond in an effective and safe manner a collaborative approach must be developed. Public expectation of our emergency response community is that we will immediately respond with a well-developed and exercised plan to stop the killing and immediately care for those who are injured.

This course focuses on the incident command structure of an ASHE incident. This type of incident is extremely complex and will be chaotic as first responders begin to arrive. This training is designed to discuss and improve incident management and integration of law enforcement, fire and EMS responders as the incident begins to unfold. This course also will provide an outline and checklist for use by law enforcement, fire and EMS to assist in the management of an ASHE response to improve time to threat neutralization, medical intervention, and survivability of victims."

All training is free of charge to the members of the Vista Fire Department and Volunteers are needed! Please visit VistaFD.org for more details on how you can join our team!
