The Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Firefighter/EMT Ryan Ruggiero on completing "Long Stretch Short Staffed" class at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla, New York.

Firefighter/EMT Ruggiero completed the 3-hour course described as the following by New York State:

"When members are assigned the task of performing a stretch exceeding the length of a pre-connected hose line, the complexity of the operation will challenge all members. This scenario will require members to stretch hose over long distances both horizontally and vertically. Considering the rapid nature of fire development in today’s built environment, these stretches must be completed efficiently to prevent uncontrolled fire spread. This program reviews the following topics: Initial size up & reflex time; Fire attack system design; Hose bed design and hose packing; Recon operations/sizing the stretch; “Long Stretch” techniques. This program provides the students different options to complete the “long stretch” taking into account the reality of today’s fire service staffing levels."

All training is free of charge to the members of the Vista Fire Department and Volunteers are needed! Please visit VistaFD.org for more details on how you can join our team!
