This week's Monday Night Drill was "Vehicle Extrication - Door & Roof Removal" for our Firefighters and "Patient Extrication" for our EMTs.

The "Vehicle Extrication - Door & Roof Removal" drill had our Vista Firefighters practicing stabilization and extrication operations by reviewing techniques such as door & roof removal. Vista Firefighters practiced how to properly operate the extrication tools to remove the doors and roof from a vehicle that has been compromised from a motor vehicle accident. Motor vehicle extrication is the process of removing a person who has been involved in a motor vehicle accident when conventional means of an exit are impossible or inadvisable.

The "Patient Extrication" drill had our Vista EMS personnel going over how to properly remove a patient from a motor vehicle accident. Vista EMS personnel reviewed how to conduct a trauma assessment and the procedures of removing a patient safely from a vehicle during an MVA incident. Our EMTs also took into account the special considerations that will be happening during a motor vehicle accident operation that could effect patient removal from a vehicle.
