Foreman Dan Castelhano completes the "The First Line: A Discussion of Engine Company Operations" course

We at the Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Foreman Dan Castelhano on completing the "The First Line: A Discussion of Engine Company Operations" course at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla, New York!

Foreman Castelhano completed the 3-hour course described as the following by New York State:

“In this program, members will discuss the basic equipment, strategies, tactics and tasks to ensure that the first hose line is placed in operation on the fireground. This program will be a guided discussion that encourages interaction amongst those in attendance to share their best practices with the group. The topics to be discussed are:

-- Response Area Challenges
-- Fire Attack System: Hose and Nozzle
-- Hose bed layout on apparatus
-- Size Up
-- Sizing the Stretch
-- Selecting the appropriate location to begin fire attack
-- Selecting the attack stairwell
-- Advancing the first hose line
-- Nozzle techniques
-- Engine Company Emergencies

The goal of this program is to provide the members strategic, tactical, and task level best practices to ensure that the first hose line is stretched and advanced efficiently."
