We at the Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Firefighter/EMT Candidate Nicholas Kaplan on completing his probationary period in the Department through the VFD Mentor Program!

Since joining in January 2018, Firefighter/EMT Candidate Nicholas Kaplan has completed the Firefighter I course at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla, NY, has become an Ambulance driver in the Vista Fire Department and is in the process of getting his New York State EMT certification. Firefighter/EMT Candidate Nicholas Kaplan actively participates during calls & drills and has been mentored throughout his probationary period by Foreman Dan Castelhano.

The VFD Mentor Program is a process where new members are paired up with a senior member to help guide them through their probationary period in the Department. This program was developed to help transition new members into the Department by understanding call response, attending weekly Monday drills and preparing them for classes they may be taking in their 1st year with the Department.
