This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Building Construction" drill for our Firefighters and a "Geriatric, Bariatric and Special Needs Patients" drill for our EMTs.

The "Building Construction" drill had our Firefighters going over the different types of Building Construction in the Vista Fire District, reviewing each of the five types of Building Construction in the Fire Service and how our Firefighters can identify each type of Building Construction. The five types of Building Construction that every Firefighter should know are: Fire-Resistive (Type 1), Non-Combustible (Type 2), Ordinary (Type 3), Heavy Timber (Type 4) and Wood-Framed (Type 5).

The "Geriatric, Bariatric & Special Needs Patients" drill had our Vista EMS personnel reviewing the definitions of bariatric & geriatric, the types of equipment that would be used for these types of emergencies such as a stretcher or stair chair and they conducted several bariatric & geriatric call scenarios. Learning how to operate equipment such as the stretcher and stair chair is vital for our EMS personnel as this is the type of equipment used for moving patients during an emergency.
