We at the Vista Fire Department would like to congratulate Firefighter/EMT Candidate Elly Hersam on completing her probationary period in the Department through the VFD Mentor Program!

Since joining in August 2017, Firefighter/EMT Candidate Hersam has completed the "Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations" course at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla, NY and is currently attending EMT-Basic class. Firefighter/EMT Candidate Hersam actively participates during calls & drills and has been mentored throughout her probationary period by Lieutenant Allie Fisher.

The VFD Mentor Program is a process where new members are paired up with a senior member to help guide them through their probationary period in the Department. This program was developed to help transition new members into the Department by understanding call response, attending weekly Monday drills and preparing them for classes they may be taking in their 1st year with the Department.
