This week's Monday Night Drill was "Mayday Operations" for our Firefighters and a "Spinal Immobilization" drill for our EMTs.

The "Mayday Operations" drill led by Lt. Phil Katz reviewed our Standard Operating Guideline on how to perform a mayday, how to properly call a mayday on an emergency scene and then we tested our Firefighters by having them call a "mayday" in a practical scenario. A "mayday" is a procedure to utilize when Firefighters find themselves in a position of imminent danger or where immediate communication is necessary to protect life or prevent injury.

The "Spinal Immobilization" drill led by Capt. Debbie Ferman & Lt. Allie Fisher had our EMS personnel reviewing the types of equipment that are used during a spinal immobilization call. Some of the equipment our EMS personnel reviewed included backboards, collars, spider straps and the Kendrick Extrication Device (KED). This type of training helped orient our EMS personnel on how to properly treat a patient during a response where spinal immobilization is needed.
