This week's Monday Night Drill was a "Hydrant Service" drill for our Firefighters and a "Splinting" drill for our EMTs.

The Hydrant Service drill saw our Firefighters servicing the dry hydrants as a preventative maintenance measure for the Vista Fire Department as it allows motor pump operator's (MPOs) to get water faster than they would when a hydrant may be obstructed with silt built up due to the seasons. While the Vista Firefighters serviced and checked all the dry hydrants in the district, it also gave those training on the pump panel an opportunity to practice the skills they've learned the last couple of months.

This week's EMS drill led by Capt. Debbie Ferman had our EMT's performing in several splinting scenarios, reviewing the proper ways to perform a traction splint and how to properly "sling and swathe" a patient with a shoulder injury. EMS personnel uses splinting techniques to immobilize the extremities of their patients when an injury has occurred and to also manage the pain they may be feeling.
