On Monday, June 12th, Vista Firefighters and EMTs handled a reported structure fire and two motor vehicle accidents.

Around 1145 hours, Vista and South Salem were dispatched on a dual response to a reported boiler explosion with fire in the structure and one party trapped in the house. Upon arrival, Vista units reported that all parties had evacuated the structure, no fire was visible at that time and that the South Salem Fire Department could return to service. The Engine 141 crew determined that the boiler had a violent puff-back causing an explosion of unburned fuel in the combustion chamber. Firefighters determined there was no damage to the structure, isolated the boiler and vented the basement.

At 1534 hours, Vista and South Salem were dispatched again on dual response to a motor vehicle accident with extrication in the area of Mill River Road and Smith Ridge Road. South Salem Fire Chief Avery Scott was first on the scene and confirmed extrication with entrapment. The Vista Ambulance 84B2 crew assumed patient care with assistance from the Vista Engine 143 crew while Firefigthers on South Salem Rescue 21 extricated the vehicle. The vehicle's operator was transported with Vista EMTs and Westchester EMS paramedics on board.

While enroute to the hospital, Vista Ambulance 84B2 observed a second car accident at the intersection of Conant Valley Road and Smith Ridge Road and made the call into 60 Control. Vista Engine 141 diverted to this scene while Engine 143 remained on the Mill River MVA scene with South Salem units. There were no injuries reported at the second scene and patients under the care of Vista Ambulance 84B1 refused medical attention.

As always, we would like to thank South Salem Fire Department for their assistance through our dual response program.
